LEGIONELLA RISK ASSESSMENTS
Risk Assessment Services. ACOP L8 / HSG274 parts 1, 2 and 3 Compliance
A Legionella Risk Assessment is based upon the following laws:
• Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
• Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
• COSHH 2002
The above 3 laws are summarised in ACOP L8. In accordance with guidance which should be followed to ensure compliance with the above laws:
• HSG274, part 1 cooling towers, part 2 domestic systems, part 3 other risk systems
• PD 855468:2015 guide to flushing and disinfection of services supplying water for domestic use within buildings and their curtilages
• BS8580
The purpose of the Legionella Pneumophila Risk Assessment is to enable a valid decision to be made regarding:
• The risk to health i.e. whether the potential for harm to health from exposure is reasonably foreseeable, unless adequate precautionary measures are taken.
• What measures for prevention, or adequate control to minimize the risk from Legionella, should be taken.
The assessment identifies and evaluates all potential sources of risk, in particular it will demonstrate the means by which exposure to the bacteria will be prevented, or if this is not reasonably practical, the means by which exposure can be minimized or controlled.
Total Water Services risk assessors have carried out assessments at a wide variety of sites including pharmaceutical facilities, schools, colleges, large distribution facilities, large retail establishments, NHS properties and nursing homes amongst others. All of our risk assessors hold the correct qualifications, copies of which can be submitted prior to attendance on site.
